Who We Are

In 1988, after noticing there was a lack of information available to students regarding substance abuse awareness, psychologist Dr. Merv Mason envisioned and published the first issue of The Teensmag.

Dr. Mason approached School Boards and various Corporate Sponsors and invited them to support this endeavor.   He created a Contest for Young Aspiring Writers and encouraged teachers and counselors to have students submit articles to appear in the publication.  He distributed the publication to various Middle and Secondary Schools in Ontario and British Columbia.

Dr. Mason continued to be both the Editor and Publisher.  The Teensmag quickly became a success and the distribution continued to expand.  In 2006, Dr. Mason indoctrinated Estelle Bleet into the program to take on the position of Publisher.  Together they form a caring team that positively impact the lives of youth. 

The Teensmag is published once annually, and has been educating youth about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse for over twenty years.  The Teensmag is an additional resource tool for helping youth make healthy and informed choices relating to the dangers of substance abuse.

The influence of The Teensmag continues to be supported throughout British Columbia by Secondary Schools, Addiction Centers, Youth Centers, Crisis Centers, Police Detachments and the First Nation Community, and we are proud to have The Teensmag integrated into their programs year after year.
